Godwin Pumps Receives "Spirit of America" Award
BRIDGEPORT, NJ Godwin Pumps recently received the National Mining Association's (NMA) Spirit of America Award. Presented by NMA President and CEO Jack N. Gerard at a luncheon in Washington, DC, the award recognized Godwin Pumps and five other NMA member companies for rushing equipment, early technical assistance, and standby mine-rescue teams to help in last summer's successful rescue of miners from the Quecreek Mine in Somerset, Pennsylvania
Gerard likened the spirit behind the volunteer assistance to that shown by other Americans in the aftermath of the terrorist attacks on September 11, 2001. "The Quecreek rescue was a feat almost beyond comprehension, if not hope," said Gerard. "The quick response of these companies to Quecreek reflected the industry's deep instinct to rally in times of need the American Spirit," Gerard concluded.
The other companies receiving the NMA Spirit of America award were Ingersoll Rand Co., RAG American Coal Holding Inc., Murray Energy Corp., Consol Energy, Inc.
