Xylem readies for continued dewatering growth, breaks ground on Godwin pumps manufacturing facility expansion

2012/01/17

WHITE PLAINS, N.Y. – (January 17, 2012) – Xylem Inc. (NYSE: XYL), a leading global water technology company focused on addressing the world’s most challenging water issues, has broken ground on a 10,000-square-foot extension of its manufacturing facility in Bridgeport, New Jersey to support continuing growth in the dewatering segment.  The Bridgeport facility is a manufacturing plant for Godwin pumps, a leading global brand of automatic self-priming portable pumps used in the growing markets for drainage pump rental, services and sales for the global industrial, construction, mining, municipal, oil and gas segments.

"We continued to see excellent growth in 2011, expanding both our pump rental and sales business considerably. To keep up with demand in 2012 and beyond, we are adding shop space at the main manufacturing facility in Bridgeport,” said Michel Bakhos, head of Xylem’s Dewatering Solutions business. “Growing our product offering and increasing manufacturing capabilities is essential in ensuring unequaled customer support and service. “

The building extension is expected to be completed during 2012.

Godwin Pumps Announces New Midwest Branches

2011/09/16

(Bridgeport, New Jersey, USA – September 16, 2011) Godwin Pumps, manufacturer of the Dri-Prime® automatic self-priming, dry-running pump, is pleased to announce new locations in the Midwest – Indianapolis, IN; Evansville, IN; and Cincinnati, OH.

Godwin’s increased presence in the Midwest aligns with its strategy to enhance its focus on customer service by positioning itself nearer to customer locations. Said Godwin president, Michel Bakhos, “The opening of these three new branches in the heart of the US Midwest exemplifies our commitment to our customers to bring an unequalled service support, to make available timely supply of rental pumps and related equipment, and to enhance pre- and post-sale support.”

Similar to all other Godwin branches across the US, Godwin’s new branches will be equipped with the Godwin product range of surface-mounted diesel Dri-Prime pumps to serve all markets, as well as Flygt’s electric submersible pumps for construction and mine dewatering using the Flygt B, 2000, 2600, 2700 stainless steel and the 5100 abrasive-resistant series.

Planning and business development are moving quickly in the new branches, with sales and service personnel at each location. Said Bakhos, "The opportunity to combine Godwin and Flygt forces at existing locations allows us to get to market faster, through pre-existing channels for both brands. Product offerings obviously complement each other, and we are eager to showcase the operational efficiencies in availability of products, parts and services.”

The alignment and expansion efforts throughout the Midwest are being spearheaded by Godwin’s Midwest Regional Manager, Bob Spinner.

“This is an exciting time for us,” said Spinner. “When it comes to pumping applications, the availability of both Flygt and Godwin in the same location gives us a bigger pump toolbox for the absolutely most efficient solution to every customers’ pumping needs.”

Godwin Pumps® Rises To The Occasion in Support of Irene Relief Efforts

2011/08/30

(Bridgeport, NJ, USA – August 30, 2011) Godwin Pumps, manufacturer of the Dri-Prime® automatic self-priming, dry-running pump continues to support emergency relief efforts throughout the East Coast after Hurricane Irene.

“We fleeted 85 diesel Dri-Prime pumps last week,” said Grant Salstrom, Godwin’s Chief Operating Officer. “This speaks volumes about the commitment of our people and the collaboration  between our  branches, sales, manufacturing, dispatch, delivery and field mechanics.”

As Irene’s path unfolded throughout the week, Godwin Pumps delivered in excess of 350 Dri-Prime pumps from eight East Coast branches in support of municipal, industrial, and even recreational flood relief applications, including controlling water levels in Citizens Bank Park – home of the Philadelphia Phillies.

“Our goal was keeping our customers above water,” said Salstrom. “So much so that we skipped painting the pumps our signature orange color in an effort to get them where they needed to be before they were needed. I’m sure the Phillies didn’t care if it wasn’t orange, as long as the bullpen stayed dry.”

Godwin also rented dozens of portable diesel generators.

“It’s one thing to say you’re an emergency response company. It’s another thing to take the calls, build the pumps load, deliver and set equipment up at all hours of the night, in all sorts of conditions. Responsiveness is in the DNA of Godwin employees,” said Salstrom.

“With so much flooding left to control, our work on Hurricane Irene is not yet complete. However, I am proud of the effort that our team put forth.”

Flygt and Godwin Support Recovery Efforts at North River Wastewater Treatment Plant

2011/07/28

(Bridgeport, New Jersey, USA – July 28, 2011) Godwin Pumps, manufacturer of the Dri-Prime® automatic self-priming, dry-running pump, has been mobilizing pipe and crew to aid in the efforts at the North River Wastewater Treatment Plant following a fire there last week.

Five pump engines caught fire in the machine room at the treatment plant in Harlem last Wednesday. The 75-foot lift station fire had caused sewage to enter watersheds and attached beaches. The total required capacity of the facility is about 120 MGD in dry-weather conditions. The two remaining engines that drive the main sewage pumps have been supplemented with six Flygt electric submersible sewage pumps, ranging from 150 hp to 240 hp, to alleviate the temporary overflow conditions. The Flygt pumps were supplied from Cincinnati and Chicago.

Godwin Pumps is supporting the job with piping and engineering. Temporary piping was shipped to the treatment plant, including over 2,000 feet of 18" pipe and 6,000 feet of 24" pipe. Several pipe fusion machines are on-site, with technicians operating them around the clock in order to improve the situation as quickly as possible.
